Municipalities (gemeenten / communes) of Belgium as at 1 January 2021 — 581 municipalities, the vintage the 2021 Census is published against, before the 2025 Flemish merger round took the current count to 565. niscode is the 5-digit NIS/INS code and the join key; names in Dutch, French and German. Built by dissolving Statbel's 'Statistical sectors 2021' layer on its CNIS5_2021 municipality code — the publisher's own construction (NGI's AdminVector spec §6.1 builds municipalities from Statbel sectors) and the only route at this vintage, since NGI keeps no archive and Statbel's Geographic files are sectors only. Union area equals the sum of the parts to within 2e-5 m² over 30,689.65 km², and the code set is exactly the Census 2021 CD_REFNIS_LVL_4 enumeration in both directions. This is a VINTAGE-PINNED companion to the current 565-municipality boundary, not a replacement for it.
