Geographic boundaries and administrative identifiers for the 19 departments of Uruguay, including official names and standardized codes.
Official departmental limits of Uruguay produced by the Servicio Geográfico Militar and republished by IDE Uruguay following the UN SALB standard at 1:50,000. The published distribution supplies the departmental limits as boundary lines; those lines have been closed into department polygons for use as a join surface. Three departments (Rocha, Durazno, Montevideo) had digitising gaps of 20 m or less between the first and last vertex, which were closed. Total land area of the resulting polygons is 174,588 km², within 0.24% of Uruguay's official 175,015 km². Major water bodies, including the Río Negro reservoir, are excluded from the land polygons, as in the source.
