The World Happiness Report is a comprehensive survey of global happiness levels. The report is gaining global recognition as governments, organizations and civil society increasingly use happiness indicators to inform their policy decisions. The reports draw on expertise from various fields such as economics, psychology, survey analysis, national statistics, health, public policy and more, to demonstrate how well-being measurements can be used effectively to assess the progress of nations. They review the current state of happiness in the world and explain how the science of happiness can be used to comprehend personal and national variations in happiness.
The happiness rankings are derived from data obtained through the Gallup World Poll. The scores are based on responses to the Cantril ladder question, which requires respondents to envision a ladder with 0 being the worst possible life and 10 being the best possible life, and to rate their present life on that scale.
