Subnational poverty rates in Latin America and the Caribbean

The World Bank Global Subnational Atlas of Poverty (GSAP) provides poverty rates (survey estimates projected to a common year, 2019) in 1,800 sub regions across 166 economies worldwide.



Sub-regions are defined as the administrative unit level 1; the highest subnational unit level (examples include ‘state’, ‘governorate’, ‘province’) from household surveys.



In this map we explore the data for Latin America and the Caribbean, across three poverty line thresholds:



• Poverty headcount ratio at $2.15
• Poverty headcount ratio at $3.65
• Poverty headcount ratio at $6.85



All estimates are in 2017 purchasing power parity (PPP).



Note that sub-national data is not available for all countries, for example Argentina, Uruguay and Ecuador. For these countries the World Bank national estimates are shown.
