Built from INDEC's 2022 census cartography (the geography the Censo 2022 was enumerated in); unit names from IGN. 527 departments, partidos (Buenos Aires) and comunas (Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires), each the union of its census fractions. Covers Argentina's undisputed territory only: the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, and the Antarctic sector claimed by Argentina are not included. Departments 94021 Islas del Atlántico Sur and 94028 Antártida Argentina are omitted. One stretch of the Argentina–Chile border is undemarcated: the Southern Patagonian Ice Field (Campo de Hielo Patagónico Sur) between Mount Fitz Roy and Cerro Daudet, in the department of Lago Argentino, province of Santa Cruz. It is drawn on INDEC's line, which is Argentina's position and not an agreed international boundary. Join on dept_code, the 5-digit INDEC code.
INDEC census fractions (datos.gob.ar, Fracciones Censo 2022) dissolved to departments on the first five digits of the INDEC code; fractions in departments 94021 and 94028 excluded. Area of each department equals the sum of its fractions. Names joined from IGN's department layer by code (IGN codes are identical to INDEC's; IGN's own department geometry is not used, because its current limits differ from the census geography). Not simplified.
