Nights spent at short stay accommodation booked via online platforms in first half of 2023

Eurostat publishes experimental statistics on the number of nights spent at short stay accommodation booked via online platforms.

The latest regional data (at NUTS2 level) for the second quarter has just been released, showing how many nights were booked in different european regions through Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia Group and TripAdvisor.

The map shows the total nights during the first half of 2023, as well as broken down by month.



Four out of the top 10 destinations so far in 2023 are in Spain, three are in France, 1 in Croatia, 1 in Italy and 1 in Portugal.



Top 10 regions in 2023, January to June inclusive:

  1. Andalucía (Spain), 11 363 952 nights
  2. Ile de France (France), 9 242 337
  3. Canarias (Spain), 8 269 925
  4. Rhône-Alpes (France), 8 257 496
  5. Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (France), 8 239 109
  6. Cataluña (Spain), 7 792 468
  7. Jadranska Hrvatska (Hungary), 6 588 856
  8. Comunitat Valenciana (Spain), 6 240 570
  9. Lazio (Italy), 5 576 925
  10. Área Metropolitana de Lisboa (Portugal), 4 925 878



In June 2023, Jadranska Hrvatska (Adriatic Croatia) was by far the most popular destination with almost 4 million nights spent at accomodation booked through online platforms.
