Share of adult population with an account at a financial institution or mobile-money-service provider
High Overall Access: In 2021, 76.2% of the adult population (15y+) had access to financial services, either through a financial institution or a mobile-money service provider. This is an increase from just 51% a decade before (2011), according to the latest UN data.
Global Economic Disparity: On average, 72% of the bottom 40% income percentile have access to a financial account, compared to 79% of the richest 60%. While the gap is not enormous, it does highlight disparities when it comes to financial access.
Gender Disparity: Worldwide, 74% of females have access to financial accounts compared to 78% of males. The gender gap, although smaller than the economic disparity, is still significant.
